Mentor Text-Linky

Happy Monday to you all!  I am joining up with the Collaboration Cuties for their Math Mentor Text Linky!  If you haven't checked it out, PLEASE DO!  I have gotten tons of ideas!  I got THIS idea from one of my brilliant inductees who did an activity that used the Marilyn Burns text The Greedy Triangle.    So, I had to test it out myself!   A dissatisfied triangle ventures out to become different shapes by adding a side and vertex each time.  The text shows the different places we might see such shape, like a pentagon on the soccer ball.  As the Greedy Triangle transformed shapes, I had my students add a side (pretzel) and a vertex (marshmallow) to create the new shape, and then record that information on THIS WORKSHEET.  They loved it!  They were amazed at how easily the new shapes were made.  They also enjoyed eating the snack afterwards!  See pics below!

Here's what you need + the Text.

Have kids create the shapes by adding a side and vertex at a time.  Record the number of each for the shape.

As a challenge, I asked them to make 3D shapes!

Voila!  Great activity, the kids were engaged the entire time!!  You can get the worksheet I used by downloading HERE.  If you would like to link up, head on over to the Collaboration Cuties!

2 truths, 1 lie RESULTS!

Earlier this week, I teamed up with Flying Into First Grade for a linky.  I guess I can not fool you guys!

Yes, #1 was a LIE!  I was not born with 12 fingers, BUT my daughter was, and my dad, and my sister.  So it's definitely common in MY family.  They refer to them as digits, the look more like a fat black eyed pea.  Because they have no bone in them, they just tie them off and after 2 weeks, they fell off!!
#2 Was a TRUTH.  I grew up in a very small town in North East Texas, population 1,200.  The library was equally small, and my mother used the library as our summer babysitter.  So yes, I did read all the children books, plus some adults ones.  I had a write-up in the newspaper and everything!

#3 Was also a TRUTH.  Titanic.  I won't go into details, because I don't want to scare you all away, but yes I do LOVE the movie.  I saw it in the theatre numerous times when it first came out.  I own it on DVD and I watch it every time its on regular TV.  I love everything about it!

So there you have it!!  Thanks to everyone who participated!  Have a great weekend!

Roll & Cover Freebie!

Hello all!  I will be starting multiplication after Spring Break (pray for me) and I whipped up these little cuties!  Somehow, anything with dice and/or coloring wins my students over.  One board is a Roll & COLOR, where students roll 2 die, multiply and color in the product.

The other is Roll & COVER, and students just cover the product.  Simple, yet effective!!

Head on over to my TPT store and get them for FREE!

Let's get acquainted!

Hello all!  I'm linking up with Flying Into First for her "2 truths and 1 lie".  I will provide you with information about me, and you have to decide which is the lie!  Sounds fun right?!

2 Truths and a Lie

How it Works:

Think of 3 things about yourself or your life.  You should make 2 of them truths and 1 of them a lie.   You can list them on your post in any order.  Do NOT give the answer yet in your post.  People will try to guess your lie by commenting on your post.   So remember to be very creative so that it is hard for people to get it right. At the end of the week you can share the answer in your comments from the post or include it in a post you make at the end of the week.

Here are mine...

1.  I was born with 12 fingers.

2.  One summer I read every single children's book in the public library.

3.  I am obsessed with the movie Titanic.

Be sure to include the linky graphic and link it back to me so others can join in on the fun!!!

Don't forget to visit the 2 people that linked up before you and leave them a comment/follow/or just read their post.

Thanks for joining in and feel free to link up anytime during the week!!!
